Item Institutional Repository - a Gateway: Case Study of AIKTC Central Library(Research Dimensions, 2016-12-10) Momin, Shaheen; Gaonkar, RupeshInstitutional repositories (IR) are digital collections that capture, collect, manage, disseminate, and preserve scholarly work created by the constituent members in individual institutions. This paper presents the results of an effort to develop and design an IR of Anjuman-i-Islam’s Kalsekar Technical Campus (AIKTC), New Panvel, India. The web performance of AIKTC institutional repositories is examined. Its performance in archiving and sharing based on the Ranking Web of Repositories (RWR) is also analysed. The main aim of ranking and registration is to promote the development of open access by providing timely information about the growth and status of repositories throughout the world. Open access to research maximizes research access and thereby also research impact, making research more productive and effective. The repository is web-enabled using DSpace Digital Library software and can be accessed online.Item Library automation project using E-G3(Indian Streams Research Journal, 2014-03-23) Ansari, Shaheen N.; Gaonkar, RupeshLibrary is a fast growing organism. The ancient methods of maintaining it are no longer dynamic and efficient. For expeditious retrieval and dissemination of information and better service for the clientele, application of modern techniques has become absolutely indispensable. A properly computerized library will help its users with quick and prompt services. Library automation refers to mechanization of library housekeeping operations predominantly by computerization. eG3 is an integrated software system with all the required models for small to very large libraries. It is found that this automation projects will serve as a model for any library. Being an open source, any Library wanted to go for automation for their library housekeeping operations can make use of this software.Item QR (Quick Response) Codes Application in Academic Libraries(C.T.Bora College, 2013-12) Ansari, Shaheen N.; Gaonkar, RupeshIn libraries there are a number of ways to get using QR codes. Barcodes are used within libraries mainly to link items to a catalogue record. Using the traditional barcode the information contained is very limited and only by scanning the barcode (at the library counter) are you able to find further information contained within the catalogue record. If instead we started to use QR codes to label books, journals, audio/visual, offprints etc and a user wanted to see further information about that resource all they’d need to do is scan the QR code. They’d be able to find descriptive information, images, useful URLs etc all at the touch of a button on their phone. This paper examines QR codes and how they can be composed and scan and decode by a camera. QR code is 2-dimensional barcode used for quick response service in academic libraries to a new generation students. This article contains a small sampling of current QR code implementations as well as a summary of what has been done to encourage student engagement with the library through the use of QR codes at the AIKTC (Anjuman-I-Islam’s Kalsekar Technical Campus) Central Library.
