While rapid urbanization and growing cities provide various opportunities, there are Fallout in terms of proliferation of slums, high prices of land and building materials Which render houses unaffordable for the segment at the bottom of the pyramid? The scheme of Affordable Housing in Partnership aims to encourage private sector participation in creation of affordable housing stock recognising that mere efforts of Government would be insufficient to address the housing shortage. It was earlier introduced in 2009 as part of BSUP component of JNNURM and subsequently, Affordable Housing in Partnership was dovetailed with Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY) in 2011.Item Construction management(AIKTC, 2019-03-05) Mahajan, GirishItem Evaluating performance and costing of green building(AIKTC, 2016-05) Mahajan, Girish; Kaji, Sadik; Shaikh, Wasim; Nachan, AarishDevelopment is gradually converting the bio diverse habitat in to a concrete jungle which consists of an impervious cover to landscape resulting into a lack of woodland habitat and conservation of the most precious element on the earth “WATER”. The vast canvas of built environment necessitates a greener color into it picture. Sustainable development is a development that “meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” Sustainable construction tries to incorporate the general sustainable development concepts into conventional construction practices. One of the ways to achieve sustainable construction is the Green Building Design, which is the core area of attention for greener built environment. Green Building Designs have environmental considerations as a basic scrutinizing criteria which attempts to integrate and achieve concepts of energy efficiency, water conservation and recharge, solid waste management, exploration of renewable energy resources, use of eco friendly materials and to minimize the negative impact on the nature, plant and animal species, non renewable material conservation and preserve resources and processes that prevail in nature. Several Green Building Rating Systems have been developed to objectively evaluate energy and environmental performance that spans the broad spectrum of sustainability.Item experimental investigation on properties of self compacting concrete using mineral admixtures(AIKTC, 2016-05) Mahajan, Girish; Shaikh, Md. Ismail(11CE44); Kutrekar, Mustufa(11CE30); Sayed, AasarMehdi (13CE75); Sayyed, Md. Mehdi(12CE82)A self-compacting concrete (SCC) is the one that can be placed in the form and can go through obstructions by its own weight and without the need of vibration. Since its first development in Japan in 1988, SCC has gained wider acceptance in Japan, Europe and USA due to its inherent distinct advantages. The major advantage of this method is that SCC technology offers the opportunity to minimize or eliminate concrete placement problems in difficult conditions. It avoids having to repeat the same kind of quality control test on concrete, which consumes both time and labour. Construction and placing becomes faster & easier. It eliminates the need for vibration & reducing the noise pollution. It improves the filling capacity of highly congested structural members. SCC provides better quality especially in the members having reinforcement congestion or decreasing the permeability and improving durability of concrete. The primary aim of this study is to explore the feasibility of using SCC by examining its basic properties. An extensive literature survey was conducted to explore the present state of knowledge on the durability performance of self-consolidating concrete. However, because it usually requires a larger content of binder and chemical admixtures compared to ordinary concrete, its material cost is generally 20–50% higher, which has been a major hindrance to a wider implementation of its use. There is growing evidence that incorporating high volumes of mineral admixtures and micro fillers as partial replacement for portland cement in SCC can make it cost effective. However, the durability of such SCC needs to be proven. This research consists of: (i) development of a suitable mix for SCC that would satisfy the requirements of the plastic state; (ii) casting of concrete samples and testing them for compressive strength and split tensile strength. Local aggregates, cement, admixtures and additives produced by the local suppliers were used in this work. The significance of this work lies in its attempt to provide some performance data of SCC so as to draw attention to the possible use of SCC.Item Pathway to net zero energy building(AIKTC, 2017-05) Mahajan, Girish; Patil, Vrushali (13CE03); Khan, Bilal (12CE27); Shaikh, Ahmed (11CE42)The proposed Net zero residential building is located at NASIK. In this project we have tried to provide all basic as well as modern amenities in residential green building which provides comfort and healthy environment. We are aiming to reduce the environmental impact, water consumption, maintenance cost and make the residential building energy efficient. For achieving this we are going to build rain water harvesting tank and provide solar panels. Also we are trying to make this building cost efficient & energy efficient. Realizing the situation about huge energy & water consumption, we need to use energy to its fullest & water sources in premises of building itself so that occupants need not to depend upon external sources which are not affordable. For achieving more accuracy, we are using Civil engineering software like AutoCAD for planning the green building. We have gone through the core principles of planning and building byelaws which helped us in proper preparations of design of green residential building. Further Scheduling of activities is to be done manually. As we know now a days building sector alone represents 35% energy consumption realizing the situation the need is to adopt a sustainable green building approach, which is the ultimate solution to reduce the energy demand of the building. Over usage of conventional material, not only harms the environment but also affects the natural resources hence we are proposing to use natural cost effective materials and some advanced techniques like rainwater harvesting and solar system to maintain the needs of environment and economy. Quality is the real parameter that is responsible for safety and overall health of construction projects. Maximum defect occurs during execution phase only due to non-compliance of desired specifications. It is observed that, on many sites, executors are not aware about quality control checklist and its significance. This is the reason why defects occur in even newly constructed structures. To overcome this, Android application, have been developed for Quality Control Indicator by using the Six-sigma process. The Six Sigma processes that are generally used in manufacturing plants, however its implementation has started in the construction industry. In the Android application, quality control checklist prepared by a construction company had taken for reference. Project authorities can apply quality control checklist on the activities and can give their remarks about the performance of particular construction activity such as Satisfactory (S ), Unsatisfactory (US ) and Not Available (NA). If any defect occurs in the activity and if it is not mitigated by site engineer or supervisor then the higher authority may take appropriate corrective action. By using this, Quality Control Indicator Application time required for lengthy conventional quality control process can be considerably reduced. Through this application, six sigma levels for particular performance are obtained immediately as well as cause s and effects of particular defect is also recorded in the application. Hence, this study covers the entire process of quality control indicators and android application for obtaining six sigma levels of various activities of the project. This study focusses on use to quality control indicator for various construction activities. QC Indicators indicates the quality status of the activity for facilitating the application of remedial measures in order to improve quality.Item Vibrartion reduction in zip-line tower at kochi(AIKTC, 2017-04) Mahajan, Girish; Khan, Huzaifa (13CES21); Sayyed, Sageer (13CES47); Kadiri, Abrar (13CES17); Qureshi, Irfan (13CES39)One of the most important applications of the theory of structural dynamics is analyzing the response of the structures to earthquakes and winds. The analytical solutions of the equation of motion for Multi-Degree of Freedom System is always a challenging job for any structural engineers. The analysis becomes much more difficult when unconventional structures such as Zip-Line towers are subjected to huge lateral loading along with the wind or earthquake excitation. Present study focuses on dynamic analysis of a Zip line tower in Kochi Kerala subjected to wind and earthquake loading. For purpose of analysis, Non-linear time history method of dynamic analysis will be used in CSI ETABS 2015. In addition to this, dynamic analysis of tower will also be done by providing Visco-Elastic dampers at various locations to reduce vibrations in the structure. At the end, optimum locations of the dampers will be determined by trial and error method.
