Item Adaptive reuse of urban decay(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Khan, Nadir (16AR18)There is a specific beauty that exists amongst architecture in the absence of routine human interaction; it is the beauty of decay. This beauty develops over time, as buildings cease to function in the way they were originally designed to do so. As this happens, such buildings become leftover, forgotten spaces that go unseen by the bulk of society; they are left to minor, often illicit alternate uses. The need to preserve architectural urban decay of historical and cultural value is getting more and more significant. At the same time it is very important to develop environment dynamically to sustain life activities in general. The thesis deals with the revitalization method with the purpose to preserve and restore abandoned structures, which assign a new function – to expand areas and adjust abandoned buildings to modern requirements. This dissertation will also explore an alternative strategy to a conservative adaptive reuse practices for different building typologies that not only complements but challenges that reveals the history through the unique character and the original intent of the design by preserving the spirit of place that is more than often lost in the process of adaptation by considering the meaning of place conveyed through its architectural expressions. The adaptive reuse strategy will be formulated and tested through case studies examples.Item Agro tourism industry in Konkan(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Mirajkar, Aqsa Gazanfar (16AR13)Konkanregion is the land of wonders and scenic beauty. One can always find incredible views in the heart of Konkan. It has natural beauty with oceans, rivers, farmlands, green forests, mountains and mineral rich rocks and soils. But, it is heartbreaking to see that the benefit of such a resourceful land goes to waste as the inhabitants of this place are devoid of these resources. The farmlands of each individual does not yield enough income for their prosperity. Also, the forests and the oceans do not bridge the gap of their necessities. Thus, the people of Konkanmigrate to big cities leaving their beloved motherland. In these cities, they have to live in miserable conditions and poverty. They struggle all their lives to just survive. That’s why if these people attract tourism in their own villages they might be able to gain income from it. But that also doesn’t compensate the loss of income. So, they can process and produce goods or products from the yield of their farms or seas through which their products value and price increases immensely leading to profit. In this way they have jobs and work to do instead of going to cities in search for employment. This way they can easily live their lives in their villages and also become economically stable.Item Automobility: epicenter of a tectonic shift in mobility(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Khan, Iqbal (16AR07)Over the past 100 years people are enthusiastic about automobiles and the advancements in the same. The term “Digital Architecture” has been coined by William Gibson in 1984. Many firms all over the world have been practising, experimenting and researching in this field, but all are in silo’s. Based on discussions and talks with experts in the field we might infer that many institutes started experimenting and adding this field as a post graduation program, but very few excelled, but many were shut down because they were not able to produce practical output. The main reason behind shutting the programs were that everyone started a program in the existing college of architecture where most of them had it like an extension to their existing programs. This experiment which were add-ons; the institutes didn't had enough resources and expertise to execute the innovative ideas in the past. It expresses that the flaws of its shape is hidden from inspection but embraced with golden significance. It is not simply any mended object that increases in its vanity of pristine appearance and the fractures are manifestation of mortal fate which deepens its appeal. The proof of its fragility and its resilience is what makes it beautiful. The thesis makes an effort towards illuminating the lives of age groups that are torn and tattered. It is the purpose of this design dissertation to design a home for the abandoned that does not only provide them shelter but also calculatively fulfills all their needs be it physical, mental or emotional. This will give their lives a new significance and a new identity. The strategy used here is to merge the vulnerable groups of the elderly and the orphans and develop interconnectedness. The motivation of this thesis is to also bridge the gap between the vulnerable groups and the society. This design dissertation endeavors to reconcile extreme perspectives to create a healthy environment with interchange of ideas and values for collective upliftment. This research aims at addressing the root problems faced by this vulnerable class and to find solutions through architecture. As stated above the art of imperfection “Wabi sabi” is the acceptance of transience and imperfection. It is a philosophy not of replacement but of awe, reverence and restoration. The title of the thesis reflects these principles and embraces the perfectly imperfect just like the art of imperfection. It is a step towards the independence and interaction of the abandoned which affirms that the fractures of a ceramic bowl don’t represent the end of the object’s life but rather an essential moment in its history. The intention behind this design dissertation is to thus fill the gaps of these imperfect abandoned age groups with a golden significance.Item House of literature- A connection(AIKTC, 2022-05) Mhatre, Raj; Khalife, Ariba Bashir (17AR12)This is a book on interpreting narrative architecture in contemporary literature. One of its statements is that the encounter of literature with the built environment is fundamental to the spatial results in terms of a set of material and symbolic forms. To address this more precisely, it is necessary to investigate several broader questions about the relationship between literature and architecture. The introduction raises the general question of how architecture and literature produce meanings and how are they intersected. This question is primarily addressed historically by studying the Indian literature of the 19th century. Then attention shifts to the crisis of unclear spatial meaning inbuilt because of the absence of storytelling in the built. This crisis manifests itself in several ways: in the aesthetics of ruin and fragmentation, in the development of alternative forms and materials. Architecture is a social art, and literature is verbal. If we adopt a layered narrative model, our buildings will not only tell our story more clearly but will also last longer with ever-changing trendsItem Marine resource hub(AIKTC, 2023-11) Mhatre, Raj; Karbhaari, Aamaan (19AR06)Title:“MARINERESOURCEHUB, Revitalizing harnai’s costal intrastructure for economic growth and environmental sustainability ” ThisthesisfocusesonthevitalroleofHarnai'sfishingharborinthecontextofIndia'sgrowingseafoodconsumptionandtheexpandingseafoodexportindustry.WitharisingdemandforIndianseafoodproductsbothdomesticallyandinternationally,it'sessentialtothoroughlyassesstheharbor'sinfrastructure,operations,andsustainability. Places where the next generation is educated and prepared for the future. The current school system was designed in a different context to meet the needs of the previous century. If we want to prepare children to live and act in the future society it is not enough to just improve literacy and numeracy. Changes in our society like globalization and digitalization together with the increasing demand of people who can innovate and collaborate means that we have to rethink education. A study towards the education system will tell us all the issues faced by children during schooling all over the world. It’s like a race which is forced upon a kid since first day of school as a compulsion. As every X and Y specie creates a unique identity, then why when all these different unique identity come under one roof (school) taught to become one identity. The ambiance, spatial experience should be interesting, happy learning, but the reality is students are taught to sit for long day in a classrooms and stare at the black board. In this world of innovation we are just bound to textbook dependent learning. Education is very important stage of one’s life, evolution of humans took place, technology is growing faster than we ever imagined, they why not the process, the basics, core of educating people? To bridge the gap between our educational method and how the society presently works specially in our own country India, If we just take a look of newspapers or taking our own examples we will come across the common fact that it only takes an examination to decide your future, which is so stereotypical .Item Tenders(AIKTC, 2019) Mhatre, Raj
