Structural health monitoring (SHM) is a technique used to analyse the condition and performance of civil engineering structures such as buildings and bridges. Currently, most structures rely on manual inspection methods that are less reliable, time-consuming and prone to human error. This creates safety risks as minor damages often go undetected until they become severe. To address this issue, this project proposes and implements a low-cost IoT-based SHM system for real-time monitoring using sensors. The system integrates a displacement sensor for measuring deflection, connected to a microcontroller unit for data collection and processing. The measured data is transmitted wirelessly and can be used for analysis and monitoring of structural behavior. The experimental setup involves a Wooden Timber subjected to loading, where deflection is measured using a displacement sensor. The system demonstrates the ability to capture real-time structural response effectively. The project is executed in stages including data acquisition, system integration, sensor setup, and experimental validation. Each stage ensures proper system functioning, testing, and performance evaluation under controlled conditions. The final system provides a simple, cost-effective, and scalable solution for structural monitoring and educational applications.
