Light Weight Translucent concrete is an upcoming innovation in construction engineering. Translucent concrete allows light to pass through it, with the presence of optical fibers embedded in the concrete. The principal objective of this project is to design the light weight translucent concrete blocks with the use of plastic optical fibers, fly ash powder and waste polystyrene (thermocol) to generate form of cement mortar. Compressive strength test and light transmitting test were conducted on concrete block to ascertain the practical utility of using translucent concrete. The project provides a new alternative to entrench the concept of sustainability and translucent concrete can be regarded as a green energy saving construction material. High emphasis is given to find out best ultimate possible solution of casting cubes with varying percentage of EPS as well as by the percentage of fly ash used in each trial. The output of project helps us in giving satisfying results so that use of these light weight translucent concrete can be bought into actual practice.
