Item Reimagining public space(AIKTC, 2026-06) Chavan, Parvathi Y.; Azmi, Amaan Amir (21AR06)Activation of a Proposed Public Space in Mumbra: Understanding Mumbra Reti Bunder Chowpatty The research examines the significant issue of why public spaces in urban areas are usually not utilized effectively. The research is based on Mumbra Reti Bunder Chowpatty, a new public space under development in Mumbra. Public spaces play a crucial role in cities because they provide people with areas to gather, socialize, play, and showcase their culture. But in rapidly growing cities like Mumbra, such spaces do not fulfill their function. It is possible because of lack of planning, neglect, or ignoring the needs and culture of the inhabitants. The Chowpatty is constructed to be a water-front recreation area. Despite having a favorable location and good potential, there are already concerns that it will not work. Individuals want to know if the design will cater to the needs of the public, how accessible it will be, if it will be safe, and if locals will even desire to use it. This research will look into reasons why this space could still be underutilized despite having been built. The intention is to propose ways it could be made accessible, interesting, and popular among the population of Mumbra. Because the researcher knows about Mumbra, the research will also demonstrate how innovative design and improved planning can turn the Chowpatty into a place people adore and frequent. The general aim is to develop design and planning tactics that will be able to redevelop the area, enhance accessibility, and provide real significance for the community. In this way, when complete, the Chowpatty can be a vibrant and populated public space.
