Item Kendriya vidyalaya, Malad - Universal design approach(AIKTC, 2015-04) Ambe, Sonam; Chougle, AmbarinA school, as an institution, leaves a deep imprint on the young developing minds and therefore school is chosen as my thesis topic. Inclusion is the need of the hour and it is the law, that all students should receive equal education. A school has a direct impact on the development and the understanding of a child. It is responsible for the physical, emotional, mental, social, cultural and intellectual development of a child. Campus environments are places where structured teaching and learning takes place and one can benefit from this. An inclusive school will provide opportunities for all physically disabled children to participate in education along with the non- disabled children in the mainstream school. Since the disabled students deprive the societal acceptance at the tender age, and are look down upon creating a sense of fear of socializing. We need to remove this stigma from the society and encourage an open mindset through the children in school. This school will help the children grow up socially and achieve a sense of independence and will polish their skills in various vocational trainings. All the existing structures in the society do not always meet the needs of every individual. The universality in the design of the structure is not seen. It is either done on a temporary basis or the versatility of the humans is ignored. The statement ‘Architecture is an art in combination with technology used to satisfy the human needs’ is in context to all kinds of human beings. So, my design thesis will be catering to the human diversity. According to the data in Mumbai Human Development report 2009, section elementary education, most of the illiteracy is seen in the lower class people and there almost negligible schools in the city that cater to the disabled children in a lower level schools, my school will be a municipal school which will be universally designed.Item Temporary housing for construction workers(AIKTC, 2015-04) Pansare, Preeti; Giniwale, Sarah (11ARC06)To provide a livable on-site habitat for the construction workers also taking into consideration social and recreational aspects on-site. More than 160 are forced into it. In 2013, The Rescue foundation rescued over 1000 girls across Mumbai, Thane, Panvel and Pune. These girls require special attention and care not just limited to their medication but providing them intricate psycho-social counselling at every stage and an overall positive attitude. Because of their traumatic depression coupled with their HIV status, they develop suicidal tendencies. Conservation of biological diversity leads to conservation of essentialecological diversity to preserve the continuity of food chains.Biodiversity provides the base for the livelihoods. Had William Wordsworth visited Kaas, the words would still be the same… I wandered lonely as a cloud That floats on high o'er vales and hills, When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden daffodils; Beside the lake, beneath the trees, Fluttering and dancing in the breeze. There exists an extremely pristine ecosystem around 25 kms from Satara. Nestled in the Sahayadri Mountains, this place is known as the Kaas plateau. It is home to a few life forms– found no where else in the world- they are endemic to Kaas. Till very recently, they had all peacefully habited the surrounding hills and plateaus. But suddenly, the scientific community observed that every year during the Indian Monsoons, the land became covered with innumerable tiny flowering plants.Kaas plateau has its endemic value through years. Kaas is ground for more than 250 flowering species which has its botanical impotance. This flowers proves very new and essential for Botanical studies, therefore it is important to conserve and research on such species. About all the flowering plants on kaas 6% are added to red data book and the site is registered under UNESCO World heritage site. . It was only in June 2012 when the UNESCO declared Kaas as a world heritage site that it got recognition and tourists started pouring in. India has one of the largest and institutionally most complex agricultural research systems in the world. The agricultural research system in India includes some 27,500 scientists and more than one lakh supporting staff actively engaged in agricultural research, which makes it probably the largest research system in the world. Historically, the Indian agricultural research system is the zenith of a process which started in the 19th century and which resulted in the establishment of the Imperial (now Indian) Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on the recommendation of a Royal Commission on Agriculture in 1929. In the present research system, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the National level mainly aids, promotes and coordinates research and education activities in the country. Based on discussions and talks with experts in the field we might infer that many institutes started experimenting and adding this field as a post graduation program, but very few excelled, but many were shut down because they were not able to produce practical output. The main reason behind shutting the programs were that everyone started a program in the existing college of architecture where most of them had it like an extension to their existing programs.Item Re-imagining housing for the guardians of law(AIKTC, 2017-05) Mhatre, Raj; Jadhav, Jotish (12ARC11)It’s a redesigning and redevelopment project.
