Item 5 Star hotel: A sustainable approach towards hotel designing(AIKTC, 2017-05) Parab, Sujit; Jadhav, Royal ((13ARC11)Tourism plays a very important role in development of city and it’s also a huge source of revenue for many countries. World Tourism Organization defines the word tourism as "traveling with staying in a particular place outside one’s own city or country for less than a year for recreation, business and other purposes". The Indian tourism and hospitality industry is top among the services sectors in India. It contributes 6.23% to the National GDP and 8.78% of the total employment in the country1. Constant revolution, functional success and upgrading standards have extended the hospitality industry of India approval all over the world. The industry is divided in two segments: • Tourism: The tourism sector includes medical and healthcare tourism, adventure tourism, heritage tourism, ecotourism, rural tourism, wildlife tourism and pilgrimage tourism. • Hotels: These include business hotels, resort hotels, airport, extended apartment hotels, resort hotels, timeshare hotels, casino hotels, convention centres and conference centres2. Accommodation plays a major role in a traveller’s overall experience of visiting a place. It is one of the premium part of traveller’s expenditure. Thus, hotel plays an important role in growth of tourism sector worldwide. lack of hotels near tourist destination or within a well-developed city can be the reason for failure of tourism industry E.g. “Dublin is among top International tourist destination worldwide & its anticipated to draw more tourist in coming 2020 but the lack of tourist accommodation is major problem which is leading to huge loss of Irish tourism Industry.”3 Navi-Mumbai which is Satellite town of Mumbai (Mumbai with Chennai comes under top 20 Asia specific destination spots4 & Mumbai is one of the top tourist destination all over world5) holds only 3 Five-Star hotel overall within the city & There are many proposals for Tourism development within Navi-Mumbai with upcoming International Airport which indeed will increase massive demands for quality accommodation once its functions. CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra Limited) have FIVE STAR HOTEL 5 proposed 3 Five-Star hotels in Navi-Mumbai & at global scale HVS (Hospitality Valuation Services) proposed the need of 1,100 branded rooms for Navi-Mumbai. Hence, looking at many initiatives taken by Maharashtra Govt to increase Navi-Mumbai tourism by proposing developments like Belapur Marina (Including1.8KM water front with water sports), Nerul Jetti (At Nerul Sagar Sangam next to NRI Complex), Parsik Hills tourism (Hill zone between Rabale to Digha), Kharghar Central park (80 HA park), Navi-Mumbai Airport and few more upcoming developments under the way. It can be anticipated that being a satellite town of Mumbai (One of the top International Tourist destination), In the near future Navi-Mumbai will draw good amount of Domestic as well as International tourist. During that period all the 3 Five-Star hotels (total 329 rooms) won’t be able to accommodate that tourist demand. For sustainable and well-functioning of the proposed Tourism development projects, the anticipated tourist demand needed to be catered by providing quality desired accommodation. The predicted profit revenue through this proposed project can enhance the tourism as well as fund for more tourism and infrastructure development within the City.Item Adaptive reuse of urban decay(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Khan, Nadir (16AR18)There is a specific beauty that exists amongst architecture in the absence of routine human interaction; it is the beauty of decay. This beauty develops over time, as buildings cease to function in the way they were originally designed to do so. As this happens, such buildings become leftover, forgotten spaces that go unseen by the bulk of society; they are left to minor, often illicit alternate uses. The need to preserve architectural urban decay of historical and cultural value is getting more and more significant. At the same time it is very important to develop environment dynamically to sustain life activities in general. The thesis deals with the revitalization method with the purpose to preserve and restore abandoned structures, which assign a new function – to expand areas and adjust abandoned buildings to modern requirements. This dissertation will also explore an alternative strategy to a conservative adaptive reuse practices for different building typologies that not only complements but challenges that reveals the history through the unique character and the original intent of the design by preserving the spirit of place that is more than often lost in the process of adaptation by considering the meaning of place conveyed through its architectural expressions. The adaptive reuse strategy will be formulated and tested through case studies examples.Item Adaptive reuse: Revival of India united mills no. 2&3, Kalachowkie(AIKTC, 2022-05) Nambiar, Abhijit; Gazge, Tahrim Salahuddin (17AR10)From the early 19th century, Mumbai mills have played an important role in the cities economic condition, urban development and communal structuring. They have always been a vital part of Mumbai's heritage, are now abandoned due to their lack of architectural, historical, and symbolic significance. There have been some redevelopment projects merely on commercial, residential and political exploitations. These developments do not think about the long history of these mills, their contribution to the city and the impact of these projects on the immediate neighbouring context. This study is an effort to explore the redevelopment proposals for the mills in central Mumbai and revitalize the specific area around and within the precinct.Item Administrative headquarter for Panvel city municipal corporation(AIKTC, 2017-04) Shaikh, Riyaz; Patel, ImadMunicipal Corporation is the main governing body of any city and its administration headquarter is probably one of the most important building. The Municipal Corporation provides all the necessary facilities and services right from the water supply and drainage to the public parks and other facilities which makes a city habitable more so a desirable one. Hence, for a city to grow and develop the administration building has to be designed with the understanding of the functioning of the Municipal Corporation, nature of work being carried out there, comfort of the employees and visitors and also the security of the building. The purpose of the study is to establish the requirement of the Municipal Corporation’s administration building by understanding the history and current world scenario, the subject in Indian context, basic and additional requirements of the same for the best possible output. This book covers all the necessary aspect for understandings the subject to help in designing the administration building. Chapter 1 is about the introduction of the topic, Chapter 2 covers all the research and literature about the subject, Chapter 3 is the compilation of the case studies of Indian and International case studies, Chapter 4 talks about the various aspect of selection of the site and Chapter 5 is the conclusion of all the previous chapters where the programme is finalized. The Administration building of Municipal Corporation in Indian context lacks the basic connectivity of different spaces and departments. Most importantly, City’s topmost important building lacks the connection to its citizen which is taken into consideration in other countries. Therefore, the reformation and a different prospect is required while designing such an important building which could change the fate of the city.Item Adventure training institute(AIKTC, 2021-05) Prajapati, Sandeep; Khan, Ameema Shamim Ahmed (16AR06)This report shows the providing architecture for enhancement of extreme outdoor sports of institutional character. Indian agriculture is a miscellaneous and extensive sector involving a large number of actors. India has one of the largest and institutionally most complex agricultural research systems in the world. The agricultural research system in India includes some 27,500 scientists and more than one lakh supporting staff actively engaged in agricultural research, which makes it probably the largest research system in the world. Historically, the Indian agricultural research system is the zenith of a process which started in the 19th century and which resulted in the establishment of the Imperial (now Indian) Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on the recommendation of a Royal Commission on Agriculture in 1929. In the present research system, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the National level mainly aids, promotes and coordinates research and education activities in the country. The development of agricultural research system in India, ever since the colonial era till today, is being tried to trace in the paper. An attempt has been made to portray the role of Five Year Plans regarding investment, technology transfer and other aspects related to agricultural development in India. Although agriculture has been playing the most vital role in Indian economy, during the course of the study, it has been observed that not much emphasis has been given to the history of evolution of agricultural research in IndiaItem Agro tourism industry in Konkan(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Mirajkar, Aqsa Gazanfar (16AR13)Konkanregion is the land of wonders and scenic beauty. One can always find incredible views in the heart of Konkan. It has natural beauty with oceans, rivers, farmlands, green forests, mountains and mineral rich rocks and soils. But, it is heartbreaking to see that the benefit of such a resourceful land goes to waste as the inhabitants of this place are devoid of these resources. The farmlands of each individual does not yield enough income for their prosperity. Also, the forests and the oceans do not bridge the gap of their necessities. Thus, the people of Konkanmigrate to big cities leaving their beloved motherland. In these cities, they have to live in miserable conditions and poverty. They struggle all their lives to just survive. That’s why if these people attract tourism in their own villages they might be able to gain income from it. But that also doesn’t compensate the loss of income. So, they can process and produce goods or products from the yield of their farms or seas through which their products value and price increases immensely leading to profit. In this way they have jobs and work to do instead of going to cities in search for employment. This way they can easily live their lives in their villages and also become economically stable.Item Alternatives in urban architecture through materials: Material exploration centre(AIKTC, 2019-05) Wadawalkar, Prajakta; Shaikh, Aziz Azam (12ARC30)India, most of the cities (urban fringe) have lost or losing their traditional usage of materials & architecture. Cities such as Delhi, Jaipur, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, & Mumbai have lost their essence of traditional architecture in the past. Konkan region which also includes Mumbai as a major city also acts as a financial hub of country, stretches from Palghar (North of Mumbai) to the sindhudurg & some parts of Goa. Although, Konkan has some great traditional architecture, local artisan’s skills & its natural materials, it has not been blended into the urban frame of konkan divisions. Konkan is also associated with a very native local, common craftsmanship of people. Conserving the traditional method & merging or implementing with contemporary architecture into urban fringe, it will not only resemble traditional values but also give a characteristics to a city (urban area) lowering down carbon emissions in a sustainable way. By creating a research centre & a learning hub which not only encourages local building craft but aspire enhancement of traditional & cultural domain through architecture. In this thesis, emphasis has been given to the exploration of materials & how the prevailing condition of urban fringe can be developed with the help of alternative method in architecture & encouragement of participatory design process. This has also originated to provide a platform for urban & traditional artisans (labourers), developers, consultants, green building professionals, researchers, environmentalists, students & common public to allow development & interaction at local, national & international levels & celebrate native building craft. This alternative centre will also generate the awareness about the materials in urban & traditional context and also create healthy scepticism towards what is happening & what should have happened. This centre will also help in conservation of material palette knowledge & its applications also giving a sustainable development in this region.Item Anecdote: Past. Present. Future(AIKTC, 2017-11) Wadawalkar, Prajakta; Bubere, Mukhbit (13ARC05)culture and it has a story to tell. The most visible source of our history is the Buildings and the Structures left behind by our Predecessors. Kalyan is no exception. A Century of industrialization & technical advancement brought forth rapid urbanization in the entire country, and more so near the metropolis such as Mumbai, Delhi, Calcutta etc. The city of Kalyan – Dombivali, owing to large urbanizable zone and its proximity to greater Mumbai forms one of the important urban agglomerations of Maharashtra state. . The smooth rail connectivity to greater Mumbai and being an important junction enabled a lot of influx of population, depending mainly on Mumbai for livelihood. The population influx lead to a tremendous pressure on the existing public services fabric of city. Thereby altering the fabric and making it like other characterless cities on the central line. Recently the smart city proposal surveys and mapping stated that Kalyan has a lot of potential into its long water front and that the city lacks Recreational and Public places. The City Development Plan aims to be “AN ECOFRIENDLY, HIGH-TECH, CULTURAL CITY”.Item Architectural manifestation of music: Music school(AIKTC, 2021-05) Prajapati, Sandeep; Thorat, Swastik Vilas (16AR28)Music has always played a very important role. If we consider all the societies and cultures, music being an art form which speaks about the evolution of that society or culture. If we look back to the history of Indian Classical Music, it has developed through very intricate interactions amongst people of different cultures from many years which can be dated back to 3000-1 200 BC. However, the evolution of music got influenced from not only cultures but with the advancements and improvements in the music in terms of notations, scale, rhythm, instruments, language, etc. From these advancements the concept of ragas evolved which can be found in c. 700 A.D. From c.1200A.D-c.1700A.D., various styles like qawwali, naqsh and many more other forms of music were invented. Eventually, gharanas which are also called as schools emerged which further led to the concept of performing and accommodation for the performers of royal courts who were accommodated by the royals. The guru-shishya parampara in music became more popular when the musicians performed in the royal courts in front of the people and the person who got interested in that style of music was free to take lessons from the gurus and staying with him at the same time. The performances in the royal courts thus further gave aesthetics to music. Thus, the gharanas gave music a new approach in terms of form and interpretation both in terms of music and architecture. The evolution of music thus did not remain confined to the notes or the rhythm but also started evolving in terms of the space and the quality. The old tradition of music has to be preserved as they are a very important part of musical heritage. But, the approach for the Indian classical music, especially the guru-shishya parampara which was earlier followed as gharana style is becoming very superficial. Also, the gharana style of teaching is not becoming inviting for large number of people because of varied approach towards music and the wide range of music which is getting popular nowadays. Also, the absence of royal patronage has also resulted as a setback. The mutual relations between the two art forms, that is, music and architecture will intervene a new approach where architecture will act as a tool which will express the art of music, especially the structure of gharanas, in terms of quality of space externally as well as internally which will increase the prominence of this style of school and thus provide a space for the gharana which are getting extinct in this date.Item Architectural response to land-water interface(AIKTC, 2022-05) Kadam, Abhishek; Shaikh, Abdul Jabbar (17AR27)As an architectural instrument, the architectural promenade can be used to upgrade a person‘s experience of space, but also of time. This architectural thesis will explore the role of spatial manipulations through progressive view in the promenade architecture, and dramatic ability to reorient the occupant to their surroundings and there by fostering the socio-cultural & economical indicator of city. ‖A healthy city is one that constantly creates and improves its physical and social environments and stretch the community resources ―WHO. But a city like Mumbra, home for 2 lakh 33 thousand people has no such called democratic public space as it was planned and developed under crucial circumstances it lacks the good city features and the residents‘ dissatisfaction with public space, has led to deteriorating public life even the neighbourhood settlement i.e. Kalwa and khari gaon have same organic urban sprawl fabric. By consolidating the hypothetical foundation with subjective exploration techniques, the proposal plans to give a superior comprehension on the basic issues and potential arrangements. Findings suggest that the job of public space is undoubtedly urgent yet making it work the correct way is definitely not a direct cycle and should be drawn closer from different various points.Item Architecture and astronomy: connection since inception of time(AIKTC, 2022-05) Gade, Kamlesh; Alve, Amey Sunil (17AR02)Since the beginning of civilization, humans have looked to the sky to circumnavigate oceans, to form calendars, and understand the question of our existence. Celestial events have always caught our attention and human curiosity led to a string of questions about our origins and the nature of our existence, universe, the vastness of space, its form, orientation, movement and its limits. These phenomena have inspired generations. Architecture was a measure of sky, a tool to verify observations in ancient and medieval times, which acted as a link between science and culture. Architectural structures depicted and spoke of the scientific terms which governed the universe. The form, orientation, the positioning, function and form gave people the knowledge to understand and study celestial objects. Astronomy and architecture have been in close contact since ancient times. People have strategized spaces by analyzing the movement of sun, stars and planets. In these times, although technology plays an important role in observing astronomical events, it is the curiosity of the human mind that is the driving force. This not only motivates research, but also inspires the rest of us with its beauty and scientific analysis. Architectural advancements in the modern era might change our perspective towards astronomical architecture. Probing, analyzing and strategizing spaces that will benefit to understand how astronomical aspects have regulated architectural design. The approach of this study is to analyze the relation of architecture with respect to astronomy and create opportunities for astronomical exploration and observations in the future.Item Assessing the impact of public spaces and built form on the mental health of the youth(AIKTC, 2022-05) Kadam, Abhishek; Khan, Ayesha Abdul Majid (17AR13)IJMR says that youth is a critical phase of life where they face many physical, psychological and behavioral changes because of social interactions and relationships. So, there is imbalance between demand and supply in case of bricks made from the laterite stone in Konkan and outside of the region. And due to the huge demand, the laterite mining industry is uplifting in Konkan region and it has witnessed unprecedented growth as an industry, generating employment, opportunities and wealth for growth. However What remains a concern is, How these mining sites are abandoned and left to degrade after mineral and material extraction is terminated. These abandoned and overlooked voids in the earth can be rethought as new resource for creating infrastructure that uniquely address to reclaiming the changed topography and life. So, the research is to develop and synthesize an experience from an abandoned mine. The mine strikes a great challenge in its development for human activities in addition to the ecological restoration, also which can be the translation of its physical opportunities and experiences along with activities and human participation in the later use of mine will help in evolving a sustainable development model.Item Center for alternative healing of cancer patient(AIKTC, 2021-05) Mhatre, Raj; Shaikh, Mahevash Riyaz (16AR23)The main aim of this research paper is to establish the criteria for designing an environment targeted at the patient‘s psychology that helps them feel comfortable and at home while combating a debilitating disease like Cancer. This study is directed at the contribution of architects in reducing stress in patients and influences their psychology in a positive way. Cancer is a dreadful disease that affects millions of people all over the world. Cancer knows no political, religious, caste, colour, race boundaries. It affects people from different economic segments and a varied age group. Cancer patients spend a lot of time at hospitals depending on the severity of their disease. The research emphasizes on reducing the stress through built environment of a cancer patient. It mainly aims at developing a concrete relationship between built environments with the reactions of cancer patients. The reduction of stress of this disease through different architectural treatments and principles is the main goal. The stress has an impact on the recovery of such patients. The findings from this research provide evidence that there is a clear link between cancer patient‘s psychology and the built environment. The main conclusions that I seek to draw from this dissertation is attempt to establish the elements of the built environment that can influence a cancer patient‘s psychology and come to a design criteria for such an environment.Item Center for elderly(AIKTC, 2021-05) Wadawalkar, Prajakta; Syed, Shahood Ahmed Waquar Ahmed (16AR21)In many countries including our country people who are more than 60 years of age are considered as senior citizen. But truly aging is not number of years one has lived. It is a characteristic of person which changes as years pass and those characters include changes in life expectancy, health, cognitive functions and other measures. The people who have worked for their whole life for themselves and their family do deserve peace in their final stage of their life. As modernization has increased the traditional family system has changed and along with this change there is growth in technology and social media. With these changes life of many of our senior and most valued member of our society has become more complicated. Why the sense of awareness has come to their mind that they have to secure their own future even if they have their own family? Many times, while moving around in our societies or in the areas where we live we see that many of these elderly people form their groups talking to each other sharing their life experiences which make them feel happy. Also, there are many elderly people who suffer a lot even in this stage of their life because of some health issues, family problems, financial problems, etc but they don't speak out loud. Why these people do not have a proper information about the external help which they can get? They also become socially inactive because of many reasons like losing their loved ones, getting retire from their jobs, losing their friends or because of some health concerns. All of these sudden changes in their life are difficult for them to accept. What can be the probable setup which will ease the disparity and make them feel the part of the community?
